Piperhill are proud to have taken part in Nick Knowles’ most recent episode on DIY SOS – The Big Build.
The McCreight family had almost given up hope of sorting their housing issues before the BBC One DIY SOS: The Big Build team stepped in.
Mandy McCreight, wife and mother of two, has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Postural Orthostic Tachycardia Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and Gastroparesis and before the work to her home, was spending over 90% of life in bed, upstairs away from her family due to the property’s lack of space for her to manoeuvre in her wheelchair.
With a huge amount of work needed to fix this issue at this family home, Sundara Design, the DIY SOS crew and volunteer contractors from the surrounding areas such as ourselves set about reconfiguring the house’s layout, with appropriate bedrooms and a wet-room that has direct access for carers.
All internal doors were widened and a new lift installed to access upstairs.
The kitchen and living area were also redesigned to give the family more space to socialise with each other and the garden completely transformed with a striking new deck/lounge area whilst also enabling wheelchair access for Mandy to both front and back gardens.
All volunteers and the DIY SOS team managed to cram five months of work into just nine days to transform the family home in County Down, Northern Ireland with an amazing sense of solidarity from all locals coming together to help this family in need.
We at Piperhill are incredibly proud to have been able to take part and give the McCreight family the opportunity to bring their family back together through the transformation of their home.
