Davitt’s GAC New Build Heritage & Community Centre
Piperhill Construction has successfully handed over the new build Davitt’s GAC New Build Heritage & Community Centre, Belfast.
Delivered with support from Belfast City Council through its Neighbourhood Regeneration Fund, the scheme provides a modern, purpose-built indoor sports hall designed to enhance local sporting provision and community use.
The construction works included piled foundations, precast concrete walling to the main hall area, installation of a cladding roof system, and a full internal fit-out to create a high-quality, durable space suitable for year-round activity. The project also incorporated supporting ancillary facilities to ensure the building meets the needs of clubs, schools and wider community users.
The new sports hall is expected to play a vital role locally, providing a dedicated indoor training space during the winter months while also being made available to local schools, community groups and trainee teachers from St Mary’s University College. The facility has been designed to support both grassroots sport and wider community engagement, helping to strengthen participation opportunities across the area.
In parallel with the construction works, Piperhill delivered a programme of social value initiatives aimed at creating a meaningful and lasting community impact. This included the donation of sports equipment to benefit local users, the facilitation of on-site health checks in partnership with the Maureen Sheehan Centre, and the provision of consultancy support to Ascert, a social enterprise addressing drug and alcohol issues across Northern Ireland.
The completion of the project marks the delivery of a modern, multi-functional sports facility that will enhance year-round training capacity, expand access for schools and community groups, and contribute positively to long-term community wellbeing in Belfast city centre.
